More information about the video content bellow: 1. Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world; 852 languages are listed for the country, of which 12 have no known living speakers. Most of the population of over 7 million people live in customary communities, which are as diverse as the languages. 2. The island of New Guinea was named after the country of Guinea in Africa. "New Guinea" (Nueva Guinea) was the name coined by the Spanish explorer Yñigo Ortiz de Retez. In 1545, he noted the resemblance of the people to those he had earlier seen along the Guinea coast of Africa. 3. For centuries, the Anga tribe of Papua New Guinea’s Morobe Highlands has practiced a unique mummification technique: smoke curing. Once smoked, the mummies aren’t buried in tombs or graves; instead, they are placed on steep cliffs, so that they overlook the village below. The very sight of a string of charred, red bodies hanging off the mountains might seem quite grotesque, but for the Anga people, it’s the highest form of respect for the dead. 4. Want to see kangaroos that climb trees, carnivorous mice or a poisonous bird? Then come see Papua New Guinea. The tree kangaroo, the Hooded Pitohui and the thousands of other species that can be found in the rainforest are all part of this country’s ecosystem. Most species are still yet to be discovered. 5. Archaeological evidence indicates that humans first arrived in Papua New Guinea around 42,000 to 45,000 years ago. Agriculture was independently developed in the New Guinea highlands around 7000 BC, making it one of the few areas in the world where people independently domesticated plants. 6. Port Moresby, also referred to as Moresby and Pom Town, is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea. The city emerged as a trade centre in the second half of the 19th century. On 20 February 1873, John Moresby claimed the land for Britain and named it after his father, Admiral Sir Fairfax Moresby. He called the inner reach Fairfax Harbour and the other Port Moresby. 7. The Territory of Papua and New Guinea was renamed Papua New Guinea in 1971. It gained full independence from Australia in September 1975. The monarch of the United Kingdom serves as the Head of State of Papua New Guinea. It remains one of the least explored countries of the world, culturally and geographically. Jointly implemented by UN Women and the National Capital District Commission (NCDC), the project is also supported by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the Government of Spain and the Australian Aid Programme (AusAID). During a recent visit from Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard to one of the intervention sites, Gerehu Market, Australia confirmed its support to the programme over the next five years. This documentary is the second in a series of films produced by UN Women on the continuing growth of the Safe Cities Programme in Port Moresby. Featuring or voices from market vendors to Members of Parliament, the film explores how the Safe Cities Programme is continuing to make selected city markets safer for women and girls based on the belief that well-designed and implemented interventions have the potential for high impact in reducing fear and curbing violence against women in the public sphere. Both social and physical infrastructure are examined in this celebration of both the programme's current achievements and its ongoing efforts to create safer public spaces in the city of Port Moresby.

In the first outbreak of its kind in the country, the Ebola virus which causes severe bleeding, has killed at least 70 people including one man whose family brought him to Conakry, the capital, for medical treatment. Health officials warn that the arrival of Ebola in this sprawling city of some 2 (m) million people with an international airport could spell disaster. Guinea is among the poorest countries in the world. It has severely limited medical facilities and has a large population living in shanty areas, prompting fears the virus could spread quickly. Panic already has grown among residents since the government announced the Conakry cases March 27th 2014 on national television. "i'm panicked, I'm very confused. Two days now, we are still on our legs. People are crying down at the hospital, they need help. They need the international help. Everybody is frightened, everybody. Even the children," said Mohamed Sow, whose wife has been admitted to a local hospital. Alhassan Conde, a resident in the Guinean capital, said: "The way this Ebola epidemic is going is very dangerous, everybody is in a panic now, this can kill a man faster." Medical teams have been travelling on foot to villages where cases have been reported. International aid groups are trying to educate Guineans about how the disease is spread, and working to identify and isolate anyone who may have been exposed. "We are now providing as you can see, chlorine, soap, gloves, all of them, and we think they have what they need in the hospitals to protect themselves," said UNICEF official Mohamed Ayoya. "We are providing today enough for 1,700 households, which represents 1,700 health workers who are working in those health service." More than 110 people have fallen ill already and authorities in neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone are also investigating suspected cases. There is no cure for the Ebola disease and the virus strain in Guinea has a fatality rate of up to 90 percent. The virus causes severe hemorrhagic fever in patients, in some cases leading to grisly deaths as patients bleed both internally and externally. Its initial symptoms are high fever, headache and weakness can mimic malaria.
