Because Europeans called a big chunk of West Africa simply Guinea and the 3 modern African countries are in that region. More information about the video content bellow: 1. The region was called Guinea broadly when it was first "discovered" by Europeans, before the colonization. If you look at the map, Europeans had already started to name specific parts of "Guinea" individually: Gold Coast , Wheat Coast, Slave Coast, Ivory Coast, etc. When Europeans were first exploring western Africa, they gave broad regional names. Specifics got filled in later. 2. The Niger River, which starts in the densely forested southeast highlands of Guinea, is the principal river of western Africa. It is the third longest river of Africa. Its name possibly comes from the Tuareg phrase 'her n gheren', meaning 'river of rivers'. This name, shortened to ngher, is a local name used along the middle stretch of the river near Timbuktu, Mali. 3. The land that is now Guinea belonged to a series of African empires until France colonized it in the 1890s, and made it part of French West Africa. Guinea declared its independence from France on 2 October 1958. From independence until the presidential election of 2010, Guinea was governed by a number of autocratic rulers. 4. Conakry, the capital of Guinea, is apparently one of the wettest capitals in the world with an incredible 3.7 metres of rain per year! 5. Guinea boasts of spectacular landscape with lush and verdant rainforests and plenty of wildlife in the south. The waterfall-rich Fouta Djalon Plateau in the west has breathtaking scenery. 6. The country of Guinea has vast amounts of mineral and agricultural resources, containing approximately 25% of the world’s bauxite reserves, a major component of aluminium. But Guinea's poorly developed infrastructure and rampant corruption ranks the country as the 182nd least developed nation out of 188. 7. The literacy rate of Guinea is one of the lowest in the world: in 2010 it was estimated that only 41% of adults were literate. Primary education is compulsory for 6 years, but most children do not attend for so long, and many do not go to school at all. Children, particularly girls, are kept out of school in order to assist their parents with domestic work or agriculture, or to be married: Guinea has one of the highest rates of child marriage in the world. One of the world's most deadly viruses, has spread from a remote forested corner of southern Guinea to the country's seaside capital, raising fears it could spread far beyond the tiny West African nation's borders. Two days now, we are still on our legs. People are crying down at the hospital, they need help. They need the international help. Everybody is frightened, everybody. Even the children," said Mohamed Sow, whose wife has been admitted to a local hospital. Alhassan Conde, a resident in the Guinean capital, said: "The way this Ebola epidemic is going is very dangerous, everybody is in a panic now, this can kill a man faster." Medical teams have been travelling on foot to villages where cases have been reported. International aid groups are trying to educate Guineans about how the disease is spread, and working to identify and isolate anyone who may have been exposed. "We are now providing as you can see, chlorine, soap, gloves, all of them, and we think they have what they need in the hospitals to protect themselves," said UNICEF official Mohamed Ayoya. "We are providing today enough for 1,700 households, which represents 1,700 health workers who are working in those health service." More than 110 people have fallen ill already and authorities in neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone are also investigating suspected cases. There is no cure for the Ebola disease and the virus strain in Guinea has a fatality rate of up to 90 percent. The virus causes severe hemorrhagic fever in patients, in some cases leading to grisly deaths as patients bleed both internally and externally. Its initial symptoms are high fever, headache and weakness can mimic malaria. Below is an account of Roxy Steljic, who was travelling with her husband and kids when they were nearly held up by PNG thugs. This happened to us yesterday on the way down from Sogeri. The group was armed with guns and bats and one of them was wearing a mask. First part of the video shows their first attempt to attack us- we thought is just a bad drunk driver. However we were cautious and that helped us to escape when the second attack happened. Registration number is BCF 560. Let me know if anyone knows anything about the car. UPDATE: Police units have been responsive and already have a suspect identified. Thank you to all who provided useful information to make this happen.

In the first outbreak of its kind in the country, the Ebola virus which causes severe bleeding, has killed at least 70 people including one man whose family brought him to Conakry, the capital, for medical treatment. Health officials warn that the arrival of Ebola in this sprawling city of some 2 (m) million people with an international airport could spell disaster. Guinea is among the poorest countries in the world. It has severely limited medical facilities and has a large population living in shanty areas, prompting fears the virus could spread quickly. Panic already has grown among residents since the government announced the Conakry cases March 27th 2014 on national television. "i'm panicked, I'm very confused. Two days now, we are still on our legs. People are crying down at the hospital, they need help. They need the international help. Everybody is frightened, everybody. More information about the video content bellow: 1. Equatorial Guinea is the smallest country in the continent of Africa that is a member of the United Nations. Besides the mainland, it also has several islands in the north-west. 2. Covering 1,400 square kilometers, Monte Alén National Park is a veritable wildlife treasure trove. Here, you can explore forest trails and go in search of elusive animals including chimpanzees, forest elephants and the critically endangered mountain gorilla. Bird species are prolific here, and you can even arrange to stay overnight in one of the park's forest campsites. 3. Bata is the largest city in Equatorial Guinea and was formerly the capital city of the country. Bioko is the largest island on which the country’s capital, Malabo, is located, making it the only country in Africa with mainland on the continent but its capital on an island. However Oyala is the country's planned future capital, still under construction. 4. Formerly a colony of Spain with the name Spanish Guinea, the country achieved its independence on Oct. 12, 1968. Equatorial Guinea is the only independent country in Africa with Spanish as an official language. 5. Since independence from Spain in 1968, Equatorial Guinea has only ever been ruled by two men, the first President Francisco Macias Nguema, who was overthrown by his nephew Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo in 1979, the second Nguema, and has ruled till date. 6. Remote Corisco Island is situated to the south of the country near the border with Gabon. It is the archetypal paradise island, with deserted white sand beaches and shimmering aquamarine waters. Snorkelling and scuba diving are both excellent here, while the island's ancient cemetery dates back some 2,000 years and is thought to be one of the oldest in Central Africa. 7. Since the mid-1990s, Equatorial Guinea has become one of sub-Saharan Africa's largest oil producers. It is the richest country per capita in Africa, and its GDP adjusted for purchasing power parity per capita ranks 43th in the world. However, the wealth is distributed very unevenly and few people have benefited from the oil riches. The country's authoritarian government has one of the worst human rights records in the world.
